Farmers’ strike at the Mini Secretariat in Karnal, Haryana continues for the third day. More than 1000 farmers are standing at the protest site and the process of people coming is going on. The protesters are demanding suspension of IAS Ayush Sinha, who ordered the beheading of farmers on the day of lathi charge at Bastara toll. BKU leader Gurnam Singh Chaduni said that the farmer leaders went to the meeting on repeated calls from the administration, but did not get a satisfactory reply even once from the officials. Why are the farmers protesting and what has happened till now?
On August 28, the police lathi-charged the farmers at the Bastara toll plaza. Sushil Kajal, a farmer of Raipur Jatan village of Karnal, was injured in the police lathi charge. In protest against this, the farmers held a mahapanchayat in Karnal grain market on 7 September. Then on August 30, the Bharatiya Kisan Union had made three demands from the Haryana government by holding a mahapanchayat at Gharaunda Anaj Mandi. Along with this, it was announced to gherao the Mahapanchayat and the mini secretariat. On September 6, the administration called the farmers for talks, but things did not materialise.

On Tuesday, in view of the gathering of the farmers in the Mahapanchayat, the administration also sent an invitation to the leaders of the United Kisan Morcha for talks. In the afternoon, a 15-member committee led by Rakesh Tikait, Gurnam Chaduni, Yogendra Yadav and Darshanpal reached the Mini Secretariat. Then during the 3 rounds of talks, the farmer leaders stuck to the suspension of the then SDM Ayush Sinha, who ordered the beheading, but the government was not ready for it. After this, following the orders of Balbir Singh Rajewal, the farmers marched towards the Mini Secretariat.
