Farmer leaders plan to end protest, but are being ‘forced’ by radical groups to continue agitation: Intel source

After the repeal of three controversial agricultural laws, farmers’ union leaders plan to end their protests in the next two days, but pressure from outside radical groups such as Khalistanis to continue their agitation and create disturbances in the state machinery being inserted, top intelligence sources have told CNN-News18,

With the upcoming elections in the key states of Uttar Pradesh and Punjab looming large, Pakistan-backed groups are colluding on social media, spreading posts and messages urging farmers to stay back and “continue their fight”.

According to farmer leaders, the social media posts were not being circulated by any farmer group but from UK and Pakistan.

Farmer leaders say they feel their “movement” is being hijacked by anti-national elements.

Despite Parliament passing bills on November 29 to repeal three agricultural laws, farmers have refused to end their protest, which began a year ago at several border points in Delhi, and now instead They are demanding a law to guarantee MSP for their produce.

The Agricultural Laws Repeal Bill, 2021 aims to repeal three agricultural laws – Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Agricultural Services Act, 2020, Farmer Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Essential Commodities ( Amendment) Act, 2020 – and amendment to the Essential Commodities Act, 1955.

Meanwhile, the decision of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi The repeal of the three agriculture laws was taken on “humanitarian grounds”, top government sources said, adding that the law was already in place. Sources further said that farmers who have been opposing agriculture laws for over a year were “misled by opposition parties” as their issue has been addressed by the Centre.

“The decision by the Prime Minister was taken due to winter and other humanitarian issues. The government also decided not to continue this kind of situation for long. We expect the farmers to go back home. Other issues like MSP and other grants will be decided by a committee and it will take some time. They should not be misled by the political parties of the opposition, their real issue has already been addressed,” the sources said.
