Fake Call Center Offers Technical Aid, Cheats Us Citizens, Busted | Gurgaon News – Times of India

Gurgaon: A team from the chief minister’s flying squad on Wednesday busted a sham call centre, operating from a commercial building in Sector 74A. Three people were arrested on the spot, and three others were booked for running the centre.
According to the police, the call center was involved in cheating US citizens in the name of tech support.
The accused used to send bulk pop-up messages to US citizens, asking them to call a toll-free number to fix their computers.
A call made by the victims would arrive at this sham facility in the city.
The accused would then misguide the victim and allege the hacking of their phone or claim that a virus had affected its functioning. They would then make the victim pay anywhere between 500-2000 US dollars through Google pay and gift card.
During the raid several youngsters were found wearing headsets and talking in an American accent to the speaker on the phone. The call center owner would collect the data of the US citizens from different sources.
Police arrested three people from the spot. The Deputy superintendent of police (DSP) CM flying squad, Inderjeet Singhsaid that the call center owner, identified as Sheri Man alias Ranaand two other people were not present during the raid.
A case was registered against all accused at the Cyber ​​police station under section 420 (cheating), 120B (criminal conspiracy) of IPC and section 66D (cheating by personation by using computer resource) and 75 (any offense or contravention committed outside India by any person irrespective of his nationality) of IT Act.
