Anubhav Dubey was born in 1996 in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh. His father was a real estate agent, and Anubhav initially aspired to follow in his father’s footsteps. However, that approach did not work for him. Then he tried to fulfill other middle class dreams like getting admission in prestigious institutes like IIT, IIM, UPSC or becoming a CA. Unfortunately, none of these efforts worked for him.

Eventually, he started his graduation in B.Com from a college in Indore, where he met Anand Nayak, the future co-founder of Chai Sutta Bar. After this, Anubhav came to Delhi to prepare for the UPSC exam, but despite studying diligently, he failed to clear the exam.

Establishment and initial challenges of Chai Sutta Bar

After facing several setbacks, Anubhav and his friend Anand raise a fund of Rs 3 lakh to start a tea shop. He saw the popularity of tea in an emerging city like Indore and decided to take a chance. With the help of second-hand furniture and other essentials bought at low cost, she opened her first stall near the girls hostel.

Initially there was not much crowd at the stall. However, through word of mouth marketing, gradually more and more people started coming to his stall. They differentiated themselves by offering ‘tea’ in kulhads (earthen cups) and providing a variety of 20 different flavours, which particularly appealed to young customers, especially college-goers.

Now, Anubhav Dubey’s inspiring journey from starting a tea stall with a modest investment to building a successful franchise empire has been recognised. He is invited as a guest speaker at management schools, where he shares his experiences and lessons learned. Now, Chai Sutta Bar has more than 150 outlets across the country and has become a well-known name.
