The central government has decided to create a regulatory mechanism to deal with fake news. However, criticism of this move of the government has also started. Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal, who has often targeted the central government, has once again cornered the government on this issue. Kapil Sibal said that now the government will decide what is fake and what is not? And Union Home Minister Amit Shah says democracy is not in danger!
Kapil Sibal said that ‘now PIB will decide what is fake and what is not and he will also notify it. If online platforms ignore this, action will be taken against them. Now this government will decide!…and Amit Shah says that democracy is not in danger.’ Recently, in the statement given by Rahul Gandhi in London, it was said that democracy in India is in danger. On this, Union Home Minister Amit Shah hit back at Rahul Gandhi during a public meeting and said that ‘democracy is not in danger, but your (Rahul Gandhi) family and dynastic politics are in danger’. It is believed that in his latest statement, Kapil Sibal has taken a dig at the same statement of Amit Shah.
Explain that Electronics and IT Minister Rajeev Chandrashekhar said on Thursday that the fact check body of the government will give information about fake news to internet firms like Google, Facebook and Twitter etc. Action can be taken against social media platforms if Internet companies ignore the instructions of the government’s fact check regulator and do not remove fake news from their platforms.
The IT ministry will set up a fact check body to crack down on fake news. Rajiv Chandrasekhar has amended the IT Rules 2021. Due to which the PIB or the body constituted by the government will get the power to decide whether the news is fake or not!
Opposition parties also surrounded the government
The opposition has started criticizing the government’s decision to set up a fact check body. Along with Congress, parties like TMC, RJD and CPI (M) are strongly criticizing this move of the government. Opposition parties are calling the government’s move tantamount to imposing censorship. However, the government has denied the allegations of the opposition. Shiv Sena (Uddhav Bal Thackeray) leader Priyanka Chaturvedi has alleged that the government is trying to control the news against her.
Editors Guild also criticized
According to media reports, the Editors Guild of India also criticized the formation of the fact check body by the government and termed the move of the central government as harsh and disturbing. The Editors Guild demanded the withdrawal of the notification issued by the IT Ministry for the formation of the fact check body.
