The former chief minister said he suspected he might be arrested during his visit to the vigilance office as the AAP government wanted to stop him from campaigning in Jalandhar ahead of the bypolls.

Hours before he is to appear before the Vigilance Bureau (VB) in an alleged disproportionate assets case, former Punjab chief minister Charanjit Singh Channi challenged his successor Bhagwant Mann to prove that he has assets worth Rs 170 crore. And he has 250 acres of land.

Accompanied by a group of senior leaders at the Punjab Congress Bhavan, an emotional Channi alleged that his “harassment” proved that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government was anti-Dalit. “I was called on the auspicious day of Baisakhi and the birth anniversary of Dr BR Ambedkar,” Channi said.

Channi said he suspected that he might be arrested during his visit to the vigilance office as the AAP government wanted to prevent him from campaigning in Jalandhar.

He said, ‘The AAP government can even eliminate me. But I’m not afraid. I will tell the truth You portrayed me as a liar to win the 2022 assembly elections. I challenge the Chief Minister to hold a press conference to give details of my assets. I am being harassed by the Center through the Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate and on the other hand, by the state vigilance because I was the chief minister for three months,” he said.

The former CM said: “I fight the false corruption against me. My financial condition is not good and my ancestral house has been attached by the court. I had to take a stay from the court.

Channi was accompanied by CLP leader Pratap Bajwa, PPCC chief Raja Waring, Punjab affairs in-charge Harish Chowdhary and party’s candidate for the Jalandhar bypoll Karamjit Kaur.
