Exports crossed $380 billion so far in the current financial year; Likely to reach $410 billion in FY22: Piyush Goyal – Times of India

New Delhi: Country’s export of goods Minister of Commerce and Industry, has raised over $380 billion so far this fiscal year till March 7 and is expected to reach $410 billion in 2021-22 Piyush Goyal Said on Friday.
He also said that India and Canada have formally resumed negotiations for a free trade agreement, officially dubbed as the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).
Goyal said at a dinner, “As of March 7, 2022, our exports are over $380 billion and well poised to cross $400 billion and possibly close at $410 billion at the end of the year. We will have record service exports of $240 billion.” Held in honor of her Canadian counterpart, Mary Ng.
Talking about India-Canada relations, he said that this economic partnership will strengthen efforts to take economic ties to the next level.
“It will help create jobs, support each other in times of need and work with each other in many international fora… Today there are more than 700,000 people of Indian origin in Canada, who are the next It is expected to go up to 1.4 million in a few years….,” Goyal said.
He also urged the Canadian minister to be “a little more lenient” when negotiating the trade deal.
The minister also sought investment from Canada in sectors such as infrastructure and manufacturing.
The Canadian Minister said that there is immense potential for business in India.
“We already have strong people-to-people ties,” he said, adding that Canadian businesses have invested about $65 billion in India, showing the potential here.
“I am looking forward to doing more work on this front,” the minister said.
Mary Ng said Canada is also entering into a Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA) with India.
“We have seen an incredible influx of investments from Canada even without it,” she said, adding that FIPA will help strengthen and build trust among Canadian investors.
Talking about the current global situation, he said: “I think we must accept the circumstances in which we meet, which are quite difficult”.
“The Russian invasion of Ukraine is a threat to world peace and Canada categorically condemns it … the invasion is a challenge to the rules-based international order and Canada has a very vibrant Ukrainian Canadian community …. therefore Current events that are deeply felt in homes and communities across Canada. Together with allies, Canada stands against authoritarianism and with a democratic Ukraine now and in the future,” she said.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar said that the challenges facing the world order really require not only a political response but also an economic response.
He said that “globally, we have over a million students today. Canada has the maximum number of students anywhere in the world today”.
“If you look at the big issues today, I actually see a very strong convergence between us … there are opportunities,” he said.
He said the trade would help further strengthen the ties between the two countries.
