What are the benefits of ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme?

One nation-one ration card scheme has been implemented across the country under the National Food Security Act 2013. This includes about 5.25 lakh ration shops across the country. Under the National Food Security Act, people above 65 years of age and disabled are being delivered ration at their homes.

Government launched ‘One Nation One Ration Card’ scheme to provide subsidized ration to migrant citizens. Under this, people going through financial crisis can get essential grains like wheat, rice at very low prices. Any ration card holder can take advantage of this scheme.

Here’s how to get benefits under this scheme

Started in August, 2019, the work on ration card portability initially started after the launch of IM-PDS in 2018. It was implemented with the aim of reforming the PDS, which has historically suffered due to inefficiencies and leakages.

The system is based on the biometric system which identifies the ration card holder through biometric authentication at EPOS, which is real time matched. If a ration card holder migrates to another city, he/she can provide the information by registering on ‘My Ration App’. After registration, he will get ration there. Also, through this app, it will be easy for the migrant beneficiaries to know how many ration shops are running under PDS around them, besides the information of the nearest shops.
