Experts suggest skincare products for different skin types

In a recent interaction with HT Lifestyle, Dr Shruti Marwah, MBBS, MS MCh elaborated on the different skin types. Emphasizing on the importance of knowing your skin type, Dr. Shruti said, “It is important to know about the suitable environment for it, the skin care products to maintain the glow and the ill effects it may have on it due to one reason or the other. gives an idea. A wrong product can cause serious skin problems. Choosing the right product is possible only when you know your skin type better and this will help you protect the skin from harmful effects and reactions.”

The expert further elaborated on the skin types and divided them into five categories- oily, dry, normal, combination and sensitive.

Dr Shruti explained what type of skin can be detected. He said that oily skin can be recognized by the production of excess sebum on the face, which makes the skin always shiny and glowing. Dry skin will usually look rough and dull, while normal skin tends to be a mix of both. Normal skin type is also known as combination skin.

Revealing the skin care products that should be used by different skin types, dermatologist Dr Geetika Srivastava listed some key points in an interview with the publication. To say that people with combination skin are blessed, as many products are not required to manage their skin. He urged them to avoid chemicals and follow the golden rule of cleansing, moisturizing and using sunscreen.

The dermatologist said that people with oily skin should use a face wash containing AHA/BHA. Alpha Hydroxy Acids and Beta Hydroxy Acids are very famous for controlling sebum and helping with acne problem. He added that if you have oily skin then you should switch from cream based products to gel based products and choose products which are non-comedogenic in nature. For sunscreens, those with oily skin should use the one that contains silicone, and should note that salicylic is their savior. For dry skin types, the expert told them to rely solely on moisturizing and products that deliver heavy hydration, like hyaluronic acid and vitamin C.

People with dry skin should stay away from AHAs/BHAs and retinols. Talking about people with sensitive skin, they should change their face wash to cleanser and go for chemical free products. Apart from chemical free products, it becomes mandatory for people with sensitive skin to do a patch test. Dr Geetika said a moisturizer is essential for sensitive skin types, so they can use a green moisturizer to cover the redness. The dermatologist also advised people with sensitive skin to stay away from toners, salicylic acid, anti-acne preparations, AHAs, BHAs and retinols.
