Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday said that a committee of experts will be constituted soon to work out ways and means to make Road Transport Corporations (RTCs) financially self-reliant as well as profitable.

In his address at a function organized by KSRTC to felicitate 60 drivers who have given 15 years of “accident-free” service, he said that he was aware of the difficult situation prevailing in all RTCs but was confident that there was a “gloomy atmosphere”. “The coming days will definitely change for the better.

“Analyzing the reasons for the difficult situation in RTCs, the proposed committee will also suggest measures to make RTCs profitable and financially self-sufficient,” Bommai said.

The Chief Minister said that he was aware of the “internal strength of RTCs” to face the challenges and deal with the crisis, adding that the need of the hour was to build capacity among the officers by inculcating professionalism and result-oriented approach. and employees.

Bommai said, “During the Covid-19 crisis during the time of my predecessor BS Yediyurappa, the state government had released Rs 2,300 crore. Now, during my period, we have released Rs 108 crore. The state government is committed to supporting RTC. Always ready.” said.

“Qualitative change in work culture along with result-oriented approach and mindset will enable RTC to be more effective as well as become a profit making organisation.”

Emphasizing on the need to improve the quality of day-to-day life of the employees, he said: “People have developed an emotional bond with KSRTC.
