Exclusive: Parenthood, coupled with pandemic, has made me feel at home, says Ruslaan Mumtaz

Actor Ruslaan Mumtaz made a sensational debut in 2007 with MP3: Mera Pehla Pehla Pyaar and then went on to star in several TV and web shows such as Kehta Hai Dil Ji Le Zara and Ayesha My Virtual Girlfriend Season 3. Veteran actress Anjana Mumtaz’s son will next be seen in Oye Mamu! – A funny comedy starring Kulraj Randhawa with him.

In an exclusive interview with Zee News Digital, Ruslaan Mumtaz talks about his upcoming projects, parenthood and love life in the pandemic.

> Tell us about your character in Oye Mamu!

U- My character in Oye Mamu is a weirdo goofball. He’s a normal entrepreneur with the most bizarre ideas he thinks are all absolute winners. Funnily enough, they are not. Don’t we all have that one friend who thinks they have the best ideas, but doesn’t mean anything in the real world? My character is that friend. He is the uncle of this cute little boy, hence his name Oye Mamu.

Q. Are you ready to work on OTT platform and explore web series?

A- I think it is a well known fact now, that OTT is the new future. This is a new arena where we have a big playing field as artists. I have done two web series – Vikram Bhatt’s Zakhmi and Ayesha, My Virtual Girlfriend. I also did a film called Namaste Wahla for Netflix. So from my own personal experience, this new medium is exciting and challenging at the same time. So yes, I would love to harness this OTT potential!

> How was it working with Kulraj Randhawa?

A- Kulraj is the most beloved. His dedication and hard work is commendable and it is always a pleasure to have him on the sets. We had great fun working together.

> Oye Mamu is a hilarious comedy entertainer – did you enjoy the genre?

A- Humor is such a rewarding genre. It’s hard to find your pace at first, but thankfully I had comedy icons Prateek Asrani, Gulshan Grover and Tiku Talsania as my co-stars to guide me. We all had a blast and the entire set was a lively string of fun.

> Your fans want to know about your future projects.

A- My 2020 movie Namaste Waha can be easily watched on Netflix. I also have a new feature film coming up, Romeo Idiot Desi Juliet, which will release later this year. Absolutely eager for the audience to experience it!

> Has parenthood changed you as a human being?

A- Being a father really changes you as a person. Parenthood coupled with the pandemic has made me a householder now! Now, it is most beneficial to stay at home and spend time with your son. My son was definitely the highlight of my pandemic.

> We know very little about your love story, tell us more.

A- Nirali and I actually met in a Shiamak Davar dance troupe. This was way before I became an actor. We have known each other for 17 years and it gets better every single day. Our small family is my biggest blessing.
