Hardeep Singh of Rampur is the main witness in the Tikunia case of Lakhimpur Kheri. He was attacked on 10 April. When lawyer Prashant Bhushan tweeted, his name came into the limelight. After this, RLD President Jayant Chaudhary has also targeted the UP government by tweeting about this incident. Hardeep has an exclusive conversation with Dainik Bhaskar on this attack.
He has accused BJP leaders Mehr Singh Deol and Sarabjit Singh Gumman of attacking them. However, the BJP leader has rubbished all the allegations of Hardeep.

Question 1: What happened, tell us about the whole incident?
answer: I had gone to Nawabganj Gurdwara to pay my respects. When I was returning, some people put the car in front of my bike and started shouting. One of them grabbed my collar and started hitting me on the head. I asked what was the matter, Mehr Singh Deol, one of them said, “The big leader becomes a big leader, he testifies in the court, I will shoot you. Then one of his accomplices attacked me in the face with the butt of a licensed pistol.” , whose scars you can see.
Question 2: How many people were there in the attack, did you recognize anyone?
answer: Those were 5 to 6 people, out of whom I have recognized two. One in this is Mehr Singh Deol, who is a BJP leader. The other is Sarabjit Singh Gumman, a BJP worker. I could not recognize the remaining 3 to 4 people.
Question 3: What did you see on the spot?
answer: As soon as Mehr Singh Deol and his men attacked me, the people passing by there stopped it by coming in the middle. Seeing the commotion, all of them ran away leaving me from there. Later people gave me water and made the atmosphere calm.

Question 4: How many rounds of questioning have you received in this case? Is there any pressure to change the statement?
answer: After the incident of Sunday, once there was an inquiry at the police station. After the Lakhimpur case, the BJP people are continuously pressurizing us that we should not be able to give a statement in any way. There is no question of changing the statement. Some time back another witness in the case was assaulted. Now I am under attack.
Question 5: The police is telling the incident of April 10 as a mutual clash. What will you say?
answer : This is absolutely wrong, nothing like that. We have not had any fight with the people who attacked me till date. Only I have been involved in the farmers’ movement and am the main witness in the Lakhimpur Kheri case, so these people have attacked me.
Question 6: Who are the other witnesses with you in the Lakhimpur Kheri case?
answer: Besides me, there are four main witnesses from Bilaspur in the Lakhimpur violence case. We have testified twice in this case.

BJP leader Mehr Singh Deol termed Hardeep Singh’s allegations as baseless. He told Bhaskar, “It was my bad luck that I saw a fight while returning from the gurdwara, so immediately went to save the boys. My name is being taken in this quarrel only to increase TRP. I am only a BJP worker. I don’t have any post in the party now.”
