Thiruvananthapuram: In a big catch, the state Excise duty Enforcement squad seized 60 kg on Saturday Hemp that a. was hiding in poultry in the field nedumangad. They have also arrested one person in the case. The accused has been identified as 28-year-old Akbar Shah, a resident of Azhikode near Nedumangad.
According to excise officials, hemp has been confiscated from the chicken. Farm It is located in Manalimukku near Nellanad. The poultry farm belonged to a cousin of Akbar Shah. the accused allegedly hidden Content prohibited in the farm without the knowledge of its owner. When he arrived on Saturday morning to feed the birds, the owner of the farm saw the packets of ganja and informed the circle inspector T Ani Kumar of the excise squad. It is believed that the rats nibbled on some of the packets and the strong smell of hemp spread throughout the farm, prompting the owner to conduct a thorough search.
Excise officials said that after confiscating the ganja, they nabbed the accused from his residence. He even struggled to resist the arrest with the help of his mother and wife. However, the excise officials eventually managed to nab him and took him into custody.
Akbar Shah is suspected to be part of an inter-state racket that smuggled ganja and Goa liquor into the state through tourist buses and goods trucks. He is suspected to be close to those who were recently arrested in Tamil Nadu’s Melapuram with 150 kg of ganja from a tourist bus and 250 kg of ganja from a truck.
Though he claims to run an export company with his office at Nedumangad, he had no clear answer regarding exports.
