Due to less stubble burning in the area, people are getting less respiratory problems.
Farmers say that contractors are coming to their villages to pick up the stubble and out-of-home service.
“In our village too, people come to collect the stubble and make its bale. What more can a farmer ask for as the transportation of stubble requires money and this increases the cost of cultivation,” said Manpreet Singh, a resident of Dhamai village. He said that children and the elderly are getting benefited by this as incidents of stubble burning are less in the village.

“The villagers from whom the stubble is collected include Bagwain, Guru Ki Bhago, Chak Guru, Bakapur Guru, Garhshankar, Gogo, Maktabpur, Roorkee, Sikandarpur, Ibrahimpur, Chak Phullu, Chak Hajipur, Chak Singha, Rakra, Singhli etc. . We are picking stubble from farmers’ fields free of cost, there are some people who charge some amount from farmers.
Kunesh Garg, member secretary, PPCB, said that he was aware of the use of stubble in distilleries in Nawanshahr and the paper mills there, but he had not heard of stubble being used in the Nangal unit. He said that it is good if it is being used in a unit there and they encourage the use of straw as energy.
