Ex-HC Judge-Led Panel To Probe Manipur Violence; Amit Shah Warns Of Strict Action

Imphal (Manipur): Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday said the central government has constituted an inquiry committee headed by a retired judge to probe the incidents of violence in Manipur that have resulted in loss of life and property. Shah, who concluded his four-day visit to the state by addressing a press conference here today, said a special Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team would probe the cases of violence in the state.

The Union Minister said, “The Central Government has constituted a committee headed by a retired judge of the rank of Chief Justice of a High Court to investigate these incidents. The Governor of Manipur will lead a peace committee with members of civil society.” do.”

“An inquiry panel will be set up to probe the cause of the violence and identify those responsible for it,” he said.

The Union Minister assured the people of Manipur that the investigation would be conducted without any bias and discrimination and the guilty would be punished.

Shah said, “Multiple agencies are working in Manipur to investigate the violent incidents. The high-level CBI probe into six incidents of violence indicates a conspiracy. We will ensure that the investigation is fair.”

The Union Minister said that the search operation in the violence-affected areas of the state would begin from tomorrow.

Shah assured strict action against those who violated the SOO agreement (suspension of operation). “I urge the citizens of Manipur not to pay heed to fake news. Strict action will be taken against those violating the Suspension of Operations (SOO) agreement. Those in possession of arms will have to surrender before the police. Search operation from tomorrow Will start and if there are weapons, then strict action will be taken if found with anyone.

The Union Home Minister said that education officers will reach the state and discuss on providing uninterrupted education facilities to the students. He said that online education and examination would be conducted as per the plan.

The Home Minister highlighted that a rehabilitation package and special provisions would be made to ensure that students do not fall behind in exams and studies are chalked out.

“The next of kin of those who lost their lives in the violence will be given Rs 5 lakh by the central government and Rs 5 lakh by the Manipur government as compensation. This amount will be transferred to the victims through DBT. There will be special medical officers. In violence-affected areas Ensure medical facilities.”

The Home Minister expressed his condolences to the families of those killed in the recent violence in the State.

“On behalf of the Government of India, on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and on my own behalf, I express my deepest condolences to all those who have lost their lives in the recent violence. It is natural for all of us to feel sad when The civilian dies,” said Amit Shah.

Shah said that he has visited different parts of the state in three days including Imphal, Moreh and Churachandpur and met representatives of Meitei and Kuki communities.

“In the last one month, some violent incidents have been reported in Manipur. I express my condolences to all the families who have lost their near and dear ones in the violence. I have visited several places in Manipur in the last three days including Imphal, Moreh has visited.” , and held meetings with officials to establish peace in Churachandpur and the state. He further said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has done phenomenal work in the state and the last six years are known for peace and prosperity.

Violence broke out in Manipur on May 3 during a rally organized by the All Tribal Students’ Union (ATSU) to protest against the demand for inclusion of Meitei/Meitei in the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category.
