“Even After Repeated Warnings, He Didn’t Stop”, Junior Lawyer Accuses Senior of Harassment in Nagpur

Nagpur: A junior lawyer at the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court registered an FIR against a 55-year-old practising lawyer on Wednesday stating that the accused used to stalk her and even tried to touch her inappropriately.

As per the complaint filed by the junior lawyer, the senior lawyer despite repeated warnings, continued to stalk and harass her. He used to stare at her whenever she entered or exited the cubicle which made her feel unsafe and discomfort.

The junior lawyer in her complaint stated, “Even after repeated warnings, he didn’t stop stalking and tried harassing me in every possible manner. He used to stare at me whenever I entered and exited my cubicle. He also used to continuously watch me from the other side of the cubicle due to which I felt very uncomfortable and unsafe. Many times, my senior and I covered our sitting arrangements by keeping our bags on the cubicle partition so that he could not stare at me.”

The complaint has been lodged with the Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa, the High Court Bar Association (HCBA), and the High Court administration.

She emphasized that the harassment was not only physical but also mental, which affected her work efficiency.

The survivor is demanding stringent action against the accused, and hoping for a fair investigation and justice. She urged the authorities to ensure her safety and hold the senior lawyer responsible for his ill-suited actions.

To avoid any further harassment, the survivor avoided going to the High Court bar room after 3:30 p.m. because the accused lawyer often remained in his cubicle until late.
