Newly-appointed Roma coach Jose Mourinho said Italy defender Leonardo Spinazola will be out for a few months after suffering a possible Achilles injury in his Euro 2020 quarter-final against Belgium on Friday.

Left-back Leonardo Spinazola, who terrorized the opposition defense with his attack in the attacking third, was in tears when pulled while charging along the flank during the game against Belgium. He had to be stretched off the pitch and was replaced by Emerson Palmieri.

Spinazola, 28, was pictured in tears on a stretcher as he was replaced by Emerson Palmeri, who is set to take his spot for Tuesday’s semi-final against Spain at Wembley.

Mourinho said during Roma’s pre-season preparations on Instagram, “We’re all sorry for Spinazola’s loss for a few months, but it’s football and we have to be ready to start next week.”

Spinazola said on Instagram that he hopes to be back soon, without giving details of his injury.

“Unfortunately we all know what happened, but our Italian dream continues and nothing is impossible with this wonderful group of us. All I can say is that I will be back soon – you can be sure of it Can,” said the Italy star.

Italy will face Spain in the first semi-final at Wembley, London on 6 July.
