Indian men’s cricket team has now become number 1 in all formats

Australia retained the top spot in the ICC Test Team Rankings despite a shock defeat to India in the opening match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, on Wednesday afternoon, the ICC accidentally made an error on its website as it displayed India as the ranked one side, displacing Pat Cummins and Co. at the top.

The ICC made corrections in the evening as it updated the list where Australia retained the top spot with 126 rating points.

The ICC website showed that India has reached the top of the ICC Test rankings.

Earlier, the rankings suggested that India’s massive win in the Nagpur Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy has seen displaced Australia top the team rankings in the format.

The Indian men’s team is also the No. 1 team in the world in ODIs and T20Is.

India were in second place before the start of the ongoing four-match Test series against Australia.

India now has 115 rating points. England, who will be playing a two-match Test series against New Zealand from Thursday, is third in the list with 106 rating points.

New Zealand is fourth with 100 rating points while South Africa is in the top five with 85 rating points.

India beat Australia by an innings and 132 runs inside three days of the Nagpur Test last week. Batting first, Australia were bowled out for 177 on day one, with Ravindra Jadeja taking five wickets.

India captain Rohit Sharma then made a strong start adding 76 runs with the openers. Rohit scored a century while Akshar Patel and Jadeja scored half-centuries.

Todd Murphy took seven wickets on debut, but India scored 400 to take a 223-run lead. In their second innings, Australia had a poor performance as Ravichandran Ashwin took a five-wicket haul of his own.

The tourists were blown out for 91 as India pulled off a dominant performance. The second Test of the series will start from February 17 in New Delhi.
