Erratic Water Supply Sparks Blockade In Silk City Locality | Bhubaneswar News – Times of India

Berhampur: Residents of the Silk City’s Goshaninuagaon on Monday staged a road blockade in protest against erratic supply of water. Several people put empty pots and utensils on the road, alleging that they have not been getting sufficient amount of water though pipeline for over a month. The supply totally stopped for the past two days, they added.
“Over 100 local families are not getting water regularly through pipeline,” said Nilakanth Sahu, BJP corporator (ward no 27) of the Berhampur Municipal Corporation.
“We have to walk around 2km everyday now to fetch a bucket of water. The mobile tanker, which was supposed to supply water in the area, does not come regularly. Over the past two days, the supply was totally stopped,” said Kamini Bhera, a local resident.
“Our engineers have rushed to the spot and started the restoration work. The supply will be restored soon,” said Biswabandhu Panigrahi, general manager, Watco, a state government company.
The supply got disrupted due to installation of new pipelines, the official said. “We seek cooperation of people as Watco is working to modernise the city’s water supply system,” he added.
The government has set a target to provide round-the-clock water supply by July 2023. In the first phase, Watco aims to ensure 24X7 water supply in Gandhi Nagar, Good-shed Road, Duduma Colony and Patitapaban Nagar.
