Noting that more countries gained independence in the last 75 years, resulting in a rebalancing of the international system, Jaishankar said that initially, it took an economic form, but soon, it developed a political aspect as well.

“The trend in the global order is gradually creating more multi-polarity and if it is to develop rapidly, it is essential that there is also a cultural rebalancing,” the minister said.

In such a situation, the world needs to be informed about all cultures and societies and one way to do this is to broaden the teaching and use of languages, including Hindi.

“The era when progress was equated with westernisation is behind us. Many languages ​​and traditions that were suppressed during the colonial era are once again finding their voice on the global stage.”

About 1200 Hindi scholars and writers from across the world are participating in this conference organized by the Government of Fiji and the Ministry of External Affairs of India.

A conference like this, which throws light on Hindi language, sends a strong message in this regard. The minister said that it reflects language as a bond between societies as well as an expression of identity.
