Indian Air Force has received more than 1.83 lakh applications under Agneepath scheme in just 6 days. It was told by the Air Force that the registration process under the scheme had started from June 24. Till 26 June i.e. 56,960 applications were received in just 3 days, while 94,281 applications were received till 27 June i.e. Monday. The government had announced this scheme on June 14. After which protests started across the country.

Registration will close on 5th July
Violence took place in many states during the demonstration. The opposition parties demanded the government to withdraw this scheme. The Indian Air Force said on Twitter that so far 1,83,634 applications have been received under the Agneepath scheme. The registration will close on 5th July 2022. The government had said that under the scheme, youth between the age group of 17 and a half to 21 years would be included in this scheme. Of these, 25% Agniveers will be made permanent.

Preference in many jobs after retirement
On June 16, the government increased the age limit of youth for recruitment under this scheme from 21 to 23 years. Later, it was announced to give preference in many departments including CRPF to Agniveers who retired after completing their tenure of 4 years.

When the youth started protesting against this scheme, many BJP ruled states promised to give preference to Agniveers in government jobs. At the same time, the chiefs of the three armies said in the press conference that those who are committing violence will not be able to become Agniveers.
