England women look to take an unassailable lead in ODI series against New Zealand

England women’s team has a chance to take an unassailable 3-0 lead against New Zealand in the third one-day international at Grace Road here on Tuesday. England are leading 2-0 in the five-match series. England had a miraculous escape in the second ODI at Worcester, a victory that seemed out of nowhere. Danny Wyatt led the fight-back with the bat, while Charlotte Dean was the star performer with the ball. They now have a good chance of winning the series. Better performances in all three departments are the need of the hour for New Zealand as they are on the verge of losing the series. The team management will demand more restraint in tough conditions, which will be paramount against an English unit that is full of confidence.

During the second ODI at Worcester, England, batting first got off to a poor start, his innings faltering as he lost wickets at regular intervals. But the 10th wicket partnership of 51 runs allowed them to post a respectable total of 197 on the board. Danny Wyatt scored an unbeaten 63 while Tash Farrant also contributed a crucial 22.

In response, the visitors took command at 111/4 before a rain delay, which changed the course of the competition. With a revised target of 183 in 42 overs, New Zealand collapsed and were bowled out for 169. They lost the competition by 13 runs (DLS method), with England taking a 2–0 series lead.

England captain Heather Knight said, “Wasn’t it a bit of a steal? What character, Danny and Tash Farrant played a great hand, they were on top until the rain break then Charlie Dean came and bowled like that, my plan for the bowlers is almost Changed 20 times. I’m really happy for Danny in his 200th game. We won a game we really shouldn’t have won. In tournament cricket, like the Ashes and the World Cup, we have to defend 200 in the World Cup They are the worst to lose and the best to win. We have been tested, which is really enjoyable.”

New Zealand captain Sophie Devine said, “We are extremely disappointed, having got England out at a sub-par, we found ourselves back to win, rain or not, it was never run-rate pressure What we would get were the wickets. You can’t lose them in bunches against a strong English side. Had to go back to the drawing board, we tried hard to get the lower order out. There’s another crack on Tuesday. About us I gotta get a little bit angry, winning is a habit and we don’t live too late. Gotta hold ourselves back, and tip it over the line.”
