England have included leg-spinner Matt Parkinson in their squad for the second Test against New Zealand at Trent Bridge from June 10.

The 25-year-old Parkinson is the only change in England’s squad from the first Test, which he won by five wickets at Lord’s, when former captain Joe Root made an unbeaten 115 of 170.

“We have added Matt Parkinson to our Test squad for the 2nd Test at Trent Bridge,” England Cricket tweeted.

Parkinson made his Test debut in an unorthodox manner, coming in as a substitute for spinner Jack Leach, who injured himself while fielding. Leach is still retained in the squad but will have to prove his fitness to be available for selection in the playing XI.

Parkinson took the wicket of Tim Southee during New Zealand’s second innings. Interestingly, the spinner was packing for a holiday when he got a call to join the team.
