England departure of Suryakumar Yadav, Prithvi Shaw may be delayed

The India-Sri Lanka second T20I was postponed by a day after all-rounder Krunal Pandya was diagnosed with Covid-19. After this, now the entire team is in isolation. However, this has put a stalemate in BCCI’s plans as they were looking to send Suryakumar Yadav and Prithvi Shaw to England. The pair were picked after the Virat Kohli-led side in Shubman Gill, Washington Sundar and Avesh Khan suffered multiple injury issues. All three youngsters were sent back to India and due to staff shortage, the BCCI quickly decided to send Yadav and Shaw as back-ups.

Krunal Pandya tests positive for COVID-19, 2nd T20I postponed

It was earlier reported that eight close contacts of Kunal Pandya were in isolation and thankfully they turned out to be Covid-negative in the RT-PCR tests conducted later last night. However, whether Yadav and Shaw were among them or not, no one knows. Whatever be the case, now it looks like the two will not be able to leave on time.

Kunal, who tested positive on Tuesday morning, has already been quarantined.

“The second T20 match between Sri Lanka and India, which was originally scheduled to be played on July 27, has been postponed by a day and will now take place on Wednesday, July 28,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a media statement.

“After the rapid antigen test conducted before the match on Tuesday morning, Kunal Pandya was found positive. The medical teams have identified eight members as close contacts,” the release said earlier.

However, sources in the BCCI have revealed that all the members of the Indian squad were kept in room isolation till their negative RT-PCR report was received.

RT-PCR test of the entire crew was conducted to detect any further outbreak in the squad.

“If all is clear, we can have the match on Wednesday. The maximum of the eight close contacts who are in mandatory isolation are players,” said a BCCI source.
