Election Results 2023: Counting Underway For Assembly Polls In Tripura, Meghalaya, Nagaland; Bypolls in Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu

New Delhi: The counting of votes for the February assembly elections in Tripura, Meghalaya and Nagaland began on Thursday (March 2, 2023) amid three-tier security measures including central paramilitary forces. Election officials said prohibitory orders have been imposed in and around all counting centers as a precautionary measure. The Election Commission has appointed a general observer for each assembly segment, while several other officials, including micro observers and counting observers, have been appointed for the counting process. Metal detectors and CCTVs have been installed in each counting hall and the entire counting process is being videographed, officials said.

Postal ballot will be counted first and then EVM votes.

Tripura Election Result 2023

Assembly elections were held in Tripura on February 16, where about 89.95 per cent of the 28.14 lakh voters exercised their franchise to decide the fate of 259 candidates, including 31 women, for the 60 seats in the state.

According to officials, Currently counting of votes is going on at 60 centers in 21 places. All over the North Eastern States.

Meghalaya Election Result 2023

In the Meghalaya Assembly elections on February 27, 85.17 percent of the 21.75 lakh voters cast their votes.

The Chief Electoral Officer of Meghalaya said that Counting of votes is going on at 13 centers of all 12 district headquarters. and a sub-divisional headquarters at Sohra.

A total of 369 candidates including 36 women are contesting in Meghalaya.

Voting was not held in one assembly constituency in Meghalaya, which also has a 60-member assembly.

Voting was not held in Sohyeong constituency in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district following the death of United Democratic Party candidate H Donkupar Roy Lyngdoh.

Nagaland Election Result 2023

A total of 85.90 per cent of the 13.16 lakh voters cast their vote in the Nagaland Assembly elections on February 27.

Nagaland election officials said that Counting of votes is being done at 59 centers of 16 district headquarters.,

Polling was not held in one assembly constituency in Nagaland, which also has a 60-member assembly.

In Nagaland, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Kazeto Kinimi was elected unopposed from the Akuluto constituency after his only rival Khekashe Sumi of the Congress withdrew his candidature.

A total of 183 candidates including four women are contesting the elections in Nagaland.

Maharashtra: Counting of votes for Kasba, Chinchwad assembly bypolls underway in Pune

Counting of votes underway for bypolls to Kasba and Chinchwad assembly constituencies in Pune district of Maharashtra. By-elections for the two seats, organized by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), took place on 26 February, recording an average voter turnout of 50 percent. The bypolls were necessitated by the demise of sitting BJP MLAs Mukta Tilak (Kasba) and Laxman Jagtap (Chinchwad).

In Pune, the BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena are up against the Congress, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance of the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray).

The main contenders in the Kasba constituency are Hemant Rasane of the BJP and Ravindra Dhangekar of the Congress (supported by the MVA).

In Chinchwad, the contest is between BJP’s Ashwini Jagtap, NCP’s Nana Kate and Independent Rahul Kalate.

Tamil Nadu Assembly bypoll: Counting underway in Erode East

Counting of votes polled in the bye-election to Erode East Assembly Constituency Currently underway in Tamil Nadu amid tight security.

While 77 candidates are in the fray, the main contest is between former Union Minister EVKS Elangovan of the ruling DMK-backed Congress and former AIADMK MLA KS Thennarasu. Other candidates in the fray include N Menaka of Naam Tamilar Katchi and S Anand of DMDK.

Tight security arrangements were made in and around the counting centre, officials said.

The by-election was necessitated due to the death of Congress MLA E Thirumagan Evra on 4 January.

About 75 percent of the votes were cast in the by-election held on February 27.

West Bengal Assembly bypoll: Counting of votes underway in Sagardighi

The counting of votes for the by-election in Sagardighi assembly constituency of Murshidabad district of West Bengal is also going on.

The main candidates are the ruling Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress (TMC), the opposition BJP and the Congress-Left alliance.

TMC and BJP have fielded Debasish Banerjee and Dilip Saha respectively, while the Left-backed Congress candidate is Byron Biswas.

The bypoll to the Sagardighi assembly seat was necessitated by the death of three-time TMC MLA and state minister Subrata Saha in December last year.

Over 73 per cent polling was recorded at the time of polling on 27 February.

Jharkhand assembly by-election: counting of votes underway in Ramgarh

Counting of votes is also going on today for the Ramgarh assembly by-election in Jharkhand.

The counting of votes began at 8 am at Ramgarh College, about 40 km from state capital Ranchi.

Over 67.96 per cent polling was recorded in the bypoll to Ramgarh assembly constituency on February 27.

Though 18 candidates, including 14 independents, are in the fray, the contest is mainly between the ruling JMM-led coalition partner Congress and the AJSU party, which has tied up with the BJP for the bypolls.

The Congress has fielded Mamta Devi’s husband Bajrang Mahto from this seat, while the AJSU party has fielded its leader Sunita Chowdhary.

The bypoll was necessitated due to the disqualification of Congress MLA Mamata Devi after her conviction in a criminal case.
