Election Commission issues notice to Assam minister Ashok Singhal for ‘give and take’ remarks

The Election Commission on Wednesday issued a notice to Assam minister and BJP leader Ashok Singhal for violating the provisions of the model code of conduct during election campaign for the bypolls if the people wanted the river embankment work to start. The notice also states that Singhal had not taken permission from the competent authority to hold a public meeting.

They have to respond to the notice by 5 pm on Thursday. “Clap is not enough, you have to vote. Give with one hand and take with the other. First you give and then I will give you / return the favor.

According to the English translation of his speech that was made part of the notice by the commission, “If tomorrow people from Congress, BPF and AIUDF come and explain and ask for votes, the embankment work will not start.”

The Election Commission was acting on a complaint against the star campaigner of the BJP. The bypolls in the state will be held on October 30 and the counting of votes will take place on November 2.
