Election Commission delegation held meeting with district magistrates, police officers in UP

Lucknow, December 29 (IANS)| A delegation of the Election Commission, which is on a three-day visit to Uttar Pradesh, met district and divisional level officials here on Wednesday to review the preparations for next year’s state assembly elections. The Election Commission delegation, which arrived here on Tuesday, held a meeting with the officials throughout the day.

An official spokesperson said the delegation met district magistrates, police chiefs, commissioners, IGs, DIGs and other officials and reviewed the preparations for the upcoming elections to ensure free and fair elections. Earlier, a booklet, Voter’s Guide, a booklet related to the information of EVM and VVPAT machines prepared by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh was released.

On Tuesday, the Election Commission delegation held a meeting with various political parties. Representatives of BJP, Congress, Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Lok Dal and Communist Party of India met the delegation. During the meetings, the BJP demanded that women security personnel be posted at every polling station, while the SP sought separate lists of disabled voters and voters above 80 years of age. The RLD had demanded that the VVPAT slips be recounted.
