Patna: The Election Commission (EC) on Saturday banned the use of LJP’s name and election symbol, bungalow, and asked rival factions led by Jamui MP Chirag Paswan and his uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras to be named by October 4. By which they can be recognized by the commission and allotted to the candidates, if any, by the respective groups in the by-elections to be held on 30 October for the Tarapur and Kusheshwar Asthan assembly seats in Bihar.
In its interim order, the Election Commission has directed both the groups to name three free symbols so that one of them can be allotted to their candidates. Both the groups have also been directed to submit their respective documents by November 5 to support their claims for a concrete hearing on their dispute.
The Election Commission’s directions must have upset Chirag, who has announced to field his party’s candidates against the JD(U) in the bypolls, for which October 8 is the last date for filing nominations. On the other hand, NDA leaders claim that Paras will campaign for JD(U) candidates.
On June 14, Paras told the Election Commission that he had been elected as the LJP leader in Parliament. On 17 June, former MP Surajbhan Singh submitted that Paras had been elected as the national president of the LJP. Two days later, Paras informed the Election Commission about the newly formed LJP National Executive Committee.
