Election 2022: Center advises polling states to increase COVID vaccination, increase testing

New Delhi: The central government on Monday advised polling states to intensify the COVID-19 vaccination of all eligible population for the first dose and ensure that the same is given to them for the second dose.

Voting states were also asked to “rapidly increase” testing to ensure that the infected are quickly identified, and less testing to initiate public health response measures in a timely manner. Because of this there is no sudden increase in numbers.

Union Health Secretary Rajesh Bhushan on Monday held a high-level meeting with five states of Uttarakhand, Goa, Manipur, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab to review public health response measures for prevention and management of COVID-19. As well as the vaccination status in these states.

States have been asked to ensure that the recommended COVID Appropriate Practices are strictly followed and adequate measures are taken for their effective enforcement, a Health Ministry statement said.

While Uttarakhand and Goa reported vaccination coverage for first and second doses higher than the national average, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Manipur reported coverage numbers below the national average.

It was mentioned that a total of 142.38 crore vaccination doses have been administered so far, of which more than 83.80 crore vaccine doses are for the first dose and over 58.58 crore are the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The ministry wrote in the statement, “States were advised to expedite the COVID 19 vaccination of all eligible population for the first dose and ensure that those who were due for the second dose are given the second dose.” “

For this purpose, the states will have to prepare district wise weekly vaccination implementation plans. State officials were advised to review the status of implementation on a daily basis.

It added that the central government continues to support the efforts of the states/UTs for the management of the COVID-19 pandemic under a ‘total government’ approach.
