Eknath Shinde took oath as the 20th Chief Minister of Maharashtra, while BJP veteran Devendra Fadnavis took oath as the Deputy Chief Minister just 24 hours after the collapse of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA). government.

Fadnavis announced in the evening in a surprise move that Shinde, who led the revolt in the Shiv Sena, would be the new chief minister, while he himself would be out of the new government, only to change his stand and become the deputy CM with his party’s central leadership. after provocation.

Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari administered the oath of office to Shinde and his deputy Fadnavis at Raj Bhavan in south Mumbai after 7.30 pm.

Shinde, a four-time MLA, began his oath-taking ceremony in Thane district by paying tributes to late Shiv Sena leaders Bal Thackeray and his political mentor Anand Dighe.

His supporters shouted slogans hailing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, Shiv Sena founder Thackeray and Dighe after his swearing-in was over.

Earlier, after BJP president JP Nadda said that Fadnavis would be part of the new Maharashtra cabinet led by Shinde, Fadnavis announced that he would not be in the government.

Shinde said after the function, “The development of the state is my priority. I will take all sections of the society along.”

The new Chief Minister was accompanied by his family members at the inauguration.

However, his son Shrikant Shinde, Lok Sabha MP from Kalyan in Thane district, is staying with rebel Shiv Sena MLAs in Goa, where he arrived from Guwahati on Wednesday night, nine days after the rebellion that toppled the MVA government.

A supporter said, “Shinde always took care of his supporters and party workers. For the first time an MLA from Thane district has become the chief minister. We are happy with the decision.”

Originally from a village in Satara district of western Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena leader is an MLA from Kopri-Pachpakhadi in Thane city.

Some of Shinde’s supporters took out a motorcycle rally in Thane and raised slogans hailing their leader, known to be a mass leader who often mingled with his voters and listened to their grievances, Apart from this, hold regular meetings with local Shiv Sena workers and office bearers.
