Suryakumar Yadav made his Test debut during the Border Gavaskar Trophy, but was left out of India’s squad for the WTC final.

Suryakumar Yadav made his Test debut for the Indian cricket team earlier this year on the back of his impressive performances in white-ball cricket. He played in the first Test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy in February and scored 8 runs in the first innings as India completed an innings victory.

Interestingly, despite playing one Test and batting just once, Yadav was left to warm the bench for the rest of the series as India took a 2–0 lead, before Australia won it by 2–0. Took it back from -1.

India maintained their lead to retain the trophy.

On Tuesday, Yadav was also dropped for the ICC World Test Championship final against Australia in June this year. In the 15-man squad, Ajinkya Rahane made a Test comeback a month after being dropped from the BCCI’s central contract for the current season.

Rahane is currently playing in the IPL where he has been impressive with the bat for the Chennai Super Kings. He last played a Test in January 2022 after which he was dropped.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra is happy with Rahane’s inclusion but has raised a bigger question on the BCCI’s selection policy.

Chopra does not understand how a player like Yadav can be judged on the basis of one Test innings and if he is not required then why was he given Test selection in the first place.

“Happy for Rahane. But how does the SKY inclusion-exclusion make sense?? Why did you select…kar liya toh ek match ke baad drop why kiya? (Why has he been dropped after just one match?)” Chopra tweeted on Tuesday.
