The festival of Eid al-Adha falls on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah according to the Islamic lunar calendar.

The crescent moon will be seen in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh for Eid-ul-Adha 2022 on July 10 and Dhul Hijjah has begun on July 1 and Bakr-Eid will be celebrated on July 10, 2022 respectively. In India, Eid is celebrated a day after it was celebrated in Saudi Arabia, which is on Saturday, July 09, 2022.

Eid-al-Adha History and Significance:

The Eid-al-Adha festival marks the will of Ibrahim (Abraham) and reverses his desire to sacrifice his son in order to obey God’s command. According to the Quran, it is said that before Prophet Ibrahim or Ibrahim could sacrifice his son, God instead provided a ram for the sacrifice.

In memory of this, Muslims around the world sacrifice a goat and divide it into three parts: one-third is given to the poor and needy; Another third is given to relatives, friends and neighbors; And the remaining third stays with the family.

Food is provided to the poor and needy, from which they get sufficient amount of medicine. Delicious food items and dishes are prepared at home and the guests are welcomed.

Significance of Eid-ul-Adha:

The second Eid or Eid-ul-Adha also marks the end of Hajj, the pilgrimage that takes Muslims to the Grand Mosque in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.

On this particular day, Ibrahim’s obedience is re-enforced with a symbolic sacrifice of a lamb, goat, cow, camel or other animal. The sacrifice is then divided equally into three parts which are distributed among family, friends and the needy.

Greetings to everyone celebrating Eid here!
