Edappadi K Palaniswami urges Tamil Nadu Election Commission to conduct rural local body elections in single phase

Chennai: Tamil Nadu’s Leader of Opposition and AIADMK co-coordinator Edappadi K Palaniswami on Wednesday wrote to Tamil Nadu State Election Commissioner V Palanikumar urging him to hold rural local body elections for nine newly formed districts in the state. And 9– in a single step.

He said that as elections were held in a single phase for 234 constituencies in the state, the two-phase elections would provide space for anti-national elements and create law and order problems.

Further, the former Chief Minister said, “The fact that elections to local bodies are to be held in such a short span of time puts the opposition party and other parties at a disadvantage and holding elections in two phases will only create law and order problems in the said districts. “

He also requested the polling officials to ensure practice of COVID-19 etiquette at polling stations and install CCTV cameras. He also said, CRPF personnel should be employed to ensure that government servants do not act in favor of the ruling party.

“Such long phases of elections will only provide an opportunity for anti-social elements to enter and create an environment where voters will be intimidated/intimidated to vote/not vote for political parties, thereby the purpose of holding such elections. will fail.” he said.

Therefore, he requested the State Election Commission to conduct single phase elections to ensure that voters can cast their votes in one go and do not fall prey to such anti-social elements.
