Mumbai: Former state home minister Anil Deshmukh had instructed the police officer (now sacked) Sachin Waze to hand over 16 bags filled with Rs 4.6 cr cash to its personal assistant Kundan Shinde Outside the Sahyadri Guest House and near the Raj Bhavan on two separate occasions, the chargesheet filed by the Enforcement Directorate recently before a special PMLA court said. Vege had illegally extorted money from the bar owners of the city on the instructions of Deshmukh.
In the chargesheet, the ED named Vaze as accused along with Deshmukh’s Nagpur-based trust, which runs the educational institution, and his family-controlled company that owned several hundred crores of land in Navi Mumbai. ED also filed chargesheet against Deshmukh’s private secretary (government officer of additional collector rank) Sanjeev Palande And in the case PA Shinde.
Deshmukh has been evading ED summons for months and a lookout circular has been issued to prevent him from leaving the country. In his statement recorded during searches at Deshmukh’s house in June, he told the ED that he had resigned on “moral grounds” after the Bombay High Court directed the CBI to conduct a preliminary inquiry.
The chargesheet also states that earlier Deshmukh demanded Rs 2 crore from Waze to help him remain in service, as several senior politicians in the MVA government were not happy with his reinstatement in the police force after a 15-year suspension. and insisted on their removal.
Later, Deshmukh asked Waze to collect Rs 100 crore a week from the bar owners every month for that. Deshmukh reiterated the demand by calling DCP Raju Bhujbal and ACP Sanjay Patil to his official residence.
The chargesheet states that “in January 2021, Deshmukh called him and directed him to hand over the cash collected till date to Kundan Shinde, who asked him to meet him outside the Sahyadri Guest House, where he had collected five bags worth Rs 1.6 crore.” Hand over. 500 rupees.”
