EC should make cow rearing mandatory for contesting elections: MP Minister Dang

A minister in the BJP government in Madhya Pradesh on Monday suggested that cow rearing be made mandatory for contesting elections. New and Renewable Energy and Environment Minister Hardeep Singh Dang also proposed recovery of Rs 500 per month from state government employees who are drawing a monthly salary of more than Rs 25,000 for protection of cows and legislation to ensure that so that the contribution of the society in protecting the cows of all the sections of the state

The minister said that he has given all the suggestions in his personal capacity. Talking to PTI, Dang said that the elected representatives are part of the society and they should work to protect the cows.

“I demand that the Election Commission (EC) should make cow rearing mandatory for contesting elections. Those candidates who are not involved in cow rearing, their forms should be cancelled. I will write a letter to the Election Commission in this regard.”

Dang said that under the proposed agriculture law, cow rearing should be made compulsory for people who buy and sell farming or agricultural products. “Since cow rearing is not practically possible for government employees, a monthly contribution of Rs 500 should be collected from employees earning more than Rs 25,000 per month,” he said.

He said that instead of just talking about cow protection, meaningful efforts should be made in this direction. “All sections of the society should contribute towards the conservation of cows. The government should ensure everyone’s contribution in this work (cow protection) by making laws in consultation with all sections of the society.

Responding to the demands raised by Dang, senior Congress MLA and former minister PC Sharma said that the previous Kamal Nath government had announced the development of 1,000 smart gaushalas (gaushalas) in Madhya Pradesh.

“If these gaushalas were developed, Dang would not have to worry about cow protection,” he said.

“I hope Dang will ensure the development of these 1,000 gaushalas as decided by the then Congress government,” he said.
