New Zealand earthquake: A 6.1 magnitude earthquake was felt in New Zealand with the epicenter near Wellington on Wednesday.

According to GNS Science (GeoNet), a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck 50 km northwest of Paraparaumu, New Zealand on Wed Feb 15 2023 7:38 PM (NZDT). The earthquake was 57.4 km deep and the intensity was close to earthquake strong. The earthquake may have been felt in Paraparaumu, Levin, Porirua, French Pass, Upper Hutt, Lower Hutt, Wellington, Whanganui, Waverley, Palmerston North, Feilding, Picton, Eketahuna, Masterton, Martinborough, Hunterville, Hawera, Blenheim, Seddon, Nelson , Dannevirke, Pongaroa, Stratford, Opunake, Taihape, Castlepoint, Motueka, Ohakune and surrounding areas.

The earthquake comes days after the deadliest earthquake in generations in Turkey and Syria that killed thousands. Hundreds of buildings collapsed in the powerful February 6 earthquake as rescuers found more bodies on Wednesday.
