Earthquake of 5.9 magnitude jolts Jammu and Kashmir; tremors felt in Delhi-NCR

earthquake: An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit Jammu and Kashmir at around 7:55 pm on Thursday. The tremors were also felt in Delhi and adjoining Non-Capital Region (NCR).

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the epicenter of the earthquake was in the Hindukush region of Afghanistan. No news of any casualty or damage has come to the fore so far.

The earthquake was at a depth of 200 km below the Earth’s surface.

According to the National Center for Seismology, earlier in the early hours of January 1, an earthquake measuring 3.8 on the Richter scale hit Delhi-NCR.

Notably, NCS is the nodal agency of the Government of India for monitoring earthquake activity in the country.
