An earthquake of 4.6 on the Richter Scale struck the northeastern state of Manipur on Friday night. There were no immediate reports of any casualty or damage, as per reports. According to the National Centre of Seismology (NCS), the tremor occurred at 10:01 pm and its epicentre was near Ukhrul.
The depth of the tremor was 120 km below the surface at a latitude of 25.14 degrees and longitude of 96.54 degrees, it said.
Earthquake in Assam
Earlier in the month of May this year, an earthquake of magnitude 4.4 on the Richter scale jolted Assam’s Sonitpur. The quake struck with a depth of 15km and the quakes of the seismic tremor were felt in Bangladesh, Bhutan, China, and parts of India recently. “An Earthquake of Magnitude:4.4, Occurred on 29-05-2023, 08:03:35 IST, Lat: 26.68 & Long: 92.35, Depth: 15 Km, Region: Sonitpur, Assam,” the NCS stated on X (formerly known as Twitter).
