E-Shram Card: Key Features, Benefits, Who Can Register and How to Register?

E-Shram Card: In a major development, the Ministry of Labor, Government of India has said that so far 20 crore registrations have been done on its e-shram portal. The e-shram portal was launched by the Government of India to create a database of workers in the unorganized sectors. According to the data of the Union Ministry of Labor and Employment, 37,23,639 people registered on the portal across the country in the last 24 hours. Of this, 52.83 per cent were women, while about 47.17 per cent of the registrations were of male workers. The Ministry of Labor and Employment updated this data on Friday.

Since its launch, the e-shram portal has witnessed 7,27,71,500 registrations from Uttar Pradesh, followed by West Bengal with 2,39,05,965 registrations. Following the indication of the first two states, 1,90,74,046 workers from Bihar, 1,28,53,007 workers from Odisha and 70,96,842 workers from Jharkhand have seen registration on the portal. E-shram card will be given to these workers to take benefits.

All categories of workers can register themselves on the new portal with the help of their Aadhar number, bank account details etc. Meanwhile, the registration on the e-shram portal has started and the labor ministry has also launched a national toll-free number “14434”, which will help in resolving all the queries of the workers regarding the registration process.

The way to register on the e-Shram portal is as follows:

Step 1: In the search bar of any internet browser, type the official web address of the e-Shram portal page – https://www.eshram.gov.in/.

Step 2: On the homepage, click on the link/section “Register on e-Shram”.

Step 3: Once you click on it, the user will be redirected to a new page https://register.eshram.gov.in/#/user/self.

Step 4: On self-registration, the user has to enter his/her Aadhar link mobile number. (This is a preferred option).

Step 5: Enter the captcha and select whether they are a member of Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO) or Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) option and click on send OTP.

Step 6: Then the user has to follow the subsequent process by entering bank account details etc. to complete the registration process.

What is the purpose of e-shram portal?

The Ministry of Labor and Employment launched the e-shram portal (www.eshram.gov.in) to create a national database of unorganized workers (UWs) including construction workers, migrant workers, gig workers and platform workers, street vendors, domestic workers. , agricultural workers, etc. on August 26 last year.

Earlier in a press release, the government had said, “The eSHRAM portal linked with Aadhaar will be used to give all social security benefits of the central and state governments for the unorganized workers. All eligible registered workers on eSHRAM portal get accident insurance cover of 2 lakh under PMSBY from the date of issue of policy.

“Under the e-shram portal, the worker’s possession is being captured to provide identification to the workers with their professions. It will facilitate the governments to formulate social security welfare schemes for all sections of the unorganized workers. It has 30 broad sector categories and a broad family of 190 businesses and around 400 businesses,” it had added.

In this connection it must be stated that any employee who is a home based-worker, self-employed employee or salaried employee in the unorganized sector, including an employee in the organized sector who is not or is not a member of ESIC or EPFO A government employee is called an unorganized employee. Any unorganized worker between the age of 16 to 59 years can register on the e-shram portal and get his e-shram card.
