E-KYC enrollment for ration holders disabled by poor server connectivity. Mysuru News – Times of India

Mysore: The e-KYC Enrollment of all ration card holders started by Eat and Civil Supplies Department from 1 to 10 August crippled the poor server connectivity and erratic power supply across the state.
The state achieved 67 per cent progress against the targeted 4.2 crore beneficiaries on August 11. The sowing season and other issues have also affected the campaign. The department in March last year to weed out bogus beneficiaries, to avoid piracy in the system, to streamline ration distribution across the state after the Center launched the One Nation, One Ration scheme and stopped it due to the pandemic. This campaign was started.
More than 4.2 crore BPL, Antyodaya and APL beneficiaries were getting ration under Anna Bhagya Free Rice Distribution Scheme from Targeted Public Distribution System scheme through 20,178 fair price shops spread across the state.
After the department decided to resume e-KYC enrollment, it entrusted the responsibility of collecting biometric thumb impression to all FPS license holders through their laptops and other systems.
At present, the state and central governments are distributing 10 kg of rice free of cost to the ration card holders. 7.3 lakh in Mysore district also ration card holder of which 6, 55,751 are bpl card holder, 50,444 are Antyodaya card holders and 26,343 are APL card holders. There are 1,011 fair price shops in the district including 232 in Mysore city alone. The city of Mysore alone has 1,47,488 card holders.
Food and civil supplies department commissioner Shamla Iqbal told TOI that the department has achieved 67 per cent of the total target till August 11. To cover the remaining beneficiaries, the department will continue the campaign next month from September 1 to 10. the officer added.
“Despite the threat of third wave of Covid, fair price shop owners across the state are trying their best to achieve 100% e-KYC enrollment target. Since they are facing issues like poor Server connections, irregular power supply and other technical glitches, the department should carry forward the campaign for a few more months. Since owners are also finding it difficult to collect biometric thumb impressions of children and elderly, the government should open Aadhaar centers in all gram panchayat limits,” Krishnappa, president of the State Fair Price Shop Owners Association, told TOI.
