Most of the festivals celebrated across India mark the victory of good over evil. Dussehra or Vijayadashami, which falls on the tenth day of Navratri, celebrates the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king Ravana as well as the victory of Goddess Durga over Mahishasura. Sky-high effigies of Ravana, Kumbhakarna and Meghnad are burnt to mark Dussehra. The people of West Bengal celebrate Durga Puja to commemorate the victory of Goddess Durga over Mahishasura.
