On the auspicious day of Ashtami, Goddess Durga is worshipped and people observe a one-day fast to please the Goddess.

According to the Hindu Vedic calendar, Vikram Samvat, Monthly Durgashtami is celebrated every month on the Ashtami Tithi of Shukla Paksha. In the month of Ashadh, the festival of Durgashtami is falling on Thursday, July 07. Goddess Durga is worshiped on the auspicious day of Ashtami and people observe a one-day fast to please the Goddess. According to religious beliefs, worshiping Maa Durga on the day of Ashtami gets rid of the troubles going on in people’s lives. Maa Durga protects her devotees from troubles.

Durgashtami Vrat: Shubh Muhurta

According to the Panchang, Ashtami Tithi in the month of Ashadh will start from 7.48 pm on 06 July and will be effective till 7:28 pm on 07 July. Since the sun is rising on the Ashtami date on July 07, the fast will be observed on Thursday. , Shubh Abhijeet Muhurta will be from 11:58 am to 12:54 pm on July 07.

Durgashtami Vrat: Significance

Devotees seek the blessings of Maa Durga by observing a fast on this auspicious day every month. It is believed that Maa Adishakti removes the sufferings of her devotees. Fasting on Durgashtami brings happiness, prosperity and wealth in the house.

Durgashtami Vrat: Puja Vidhi

  1. Begin by getting up in Brahma Muhurta and take a bath and wear clean clothes.
  2. Purify the place of worship by pouring Gangajal.
  3. Place the idol of Maa Durga on a red cloth and sprinkle some Ganges water on the idol.
  4. Now light a lamp in front of Maa Durga. Offer akshat, flowers, garlands, vermilion to the goddess along with fruits and sweets as prasad.
  5. Recite Durga Chalisa by lighting incense and lamp and then do Aarti Durga Aarti.
  6. Make sattvik food at home and offer it to the goddess.
