‘Dunki’ Joins The Rs 100 Crore Club, 10th Shah Rukh Khan Film To Achieve This Feat

Dunki, featuring Shah Rukh Khan, has achieved a significant milestone by crossing the Rs 100 crore mark at the Indian box office. The film garnered approximately Rs 29.25 to 30.25 crore on Sunday, bringing its total collections to Rs 102.50 crore. Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, Dunki continues to perform strongly in multiplexes across key cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Bangalore, maintaining excellent occupancy levels throughout the day, particularly with family audiences showing a strong interest in the movie.

Dunki has now joined the prestigious Rs 100 crore club, marking the 10th Shah Rukh Khan film to achieve this feat. The list includes Ra One, Don 2, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Chennai Express, Happy New Year, Dilwale, Raees, Pathaan, and Jawan. Remarkably, Dunki represents the third consecutive success for the superstar in 2023, following the releases of Pathaan and Jawan. With an All India net exceeding Rs 1200 crore in 2023, Shah Rukh Khan is poised to reflect on this year as a historic milestone in his illustrious 30-year career. The five-day extended weekend for Dunki is projected to land in the range of Rs 125 crore.

The impressive box office figures for Dunki can be attributed to the star power of Shah Rukh Khan and the positive reputation of director Rajkumar Hirani. However, initial audience reactions appear to be mixed, particularly in mass areas. While the growth on Sunday is encouraging, it is crucial for Dunki to maintain its momentum on Monday and Tuesday. The film is expected to enjoy another successful day on Monday, thanks to the Christmas holiday, but the trend from Tuesday onward will provide insights into its long-term performance.

While Dunki has achieved commendable collections, there is a sentiment that it could have performed even better, possibly by around 25 percent. One contributing factor is the genre, as Dunki doesn’t fall into the category of front-loaded action films, which have seen significant success in the post-pandemic era. Despite this, the collaboration between Shah Rukh Khan and Rajkumar Hirani, being their first project together, was anticipated to have a stronger showing over the first four days. The film’s performance may have been impacted by these genre considerations and other market dynamics.
