District authorities in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba, Ramban and Baramulla on Tuesday banned the storage, sale or possession of drones and other unmanned aerial vehicles. Authorities in Srinagar and the border districts of Rajouri and Kathua have imposed such restrictions following the recent terror attack on an Indian Air Force station in Jammu with armed drones.

In Baramulla, people with drone cameras or other similar unmanned aerial vehicles have been directed to be deposited at local police stations.

Ramban District Magistrate (DM), Musrat Islam said the ban has been ordered in view of the frequent use of small drone cameras for capturing photos and videos in social and cultural gatherings and the risk of its use by anti-national elements. .

As per the order, the move will help in securing air spaces near critical installations and highly populated areas to avoid any confusion in the prevailing situation.

“Any drone operating in the district needs to be registered. The order states that the owner of the drone and its operator shall be liable for all damages caused to the person or property due to improper operation or malfunction or otherwise of the drone.

In what was the first instance of Pakistan-based terrorists deploying drones to attack critical installations, two bombs were dropped at the Indian Air Force Station Jammu in the early hours of Sunday, causing minor injuries to two personnel.

The explosions occurred within six minutes of each other at around 1.40 am. The first blast occurred from the roof of a single-storey building in the technical area of ​​the Indian Air Force-run airport in Satwari area on the outskirts of Jammu. The other was lying on the ground.
