  • Trials are going on successfully in 3 areas here.

Corona has turned the dream of driverless delivery into reality in Singapore. These days, robots can be seen on the streets here delivering everyday items to food. In February, the government started a trial with the help of two robots in Punggol, which has 700 houses. Then the Foodpanda company deployed four robots for the delivery of food and grocery products at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) on 200 hectares. Foodpanda’s rival company Grab has announced the launch of Robot Runner service for restaurant delivery.

A Foodpanda spokesperson explains, “Contactless delivery is the need of the hour. This will help us to increase the delivery efficiency and serve the customers in an economical cost effective manner. This trial will run till November. We hope to do robot assisted deliveries across Singapore after that. It is estimated that this will reduce the waiting time by 5-15 minutes. A robotic vehicle can hold 100 boxes.

The mobility robots deployed at NTU are also planned to be converted into mobile stores in future for the convenience of the staff and students of the National Universities. A decision on this will be taken after the trial which runs from July to October. In this way, robot delivery is being done in three different areas of Singapore.

All three are based on different technologies. Foodpanda’s Foodbot runs with the help of AI. Special tracks have been made for them, which run on the same. The camera, eye and software in it act like brain. The experiment was successful among 700 residents in Punggol.

A spokesperson for OTSAW, a robot maker, says that not only the youth but also the elderly are placing orders. People from other areas are demanding a trial. We have applied for this. These robots are equipped with advanced technology. Because of this, the risk of accidents and fraud from customers etc. is negligible. For example, Neolix L4 robot is equipped with multiple sensors like D LIDAR, nine cameras, 14 ultrasonic sensors and radars.

Safe: The robot vehicle weighs 80kg, can’t remove any goods without order proof OTP

This system works on advanced technology. The robot takes the delivery and reaches the given address of the customer. Sends a notification to the customer’s mobile as soon as the location is reached. To receive orders from the robot, the customer has to show proof of his order in front of the robot’s camera.

After this, with the help of OTP, the customer can open his box and take out the goods. A robotic vehicle weighs 80 kg and currently its speed has been kept at 5 kmph. However, these robots will do it only till the lobby of the delivery building. The customers have to come till the ground floor.
