Dressing room turmoil a thing of the past, Finch hints after T20 World Cup win

The turmoil in the Australian dressing room, which forced Cricket Australia (CA) held a firefighting session two months ago, seemingly a thing of the past with the Aaron Finch-led side strengthened by the ordeal to win the ICC deservedly. t20 world cup Here, beating Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand in the final.

Australian coach Justin Langer was caught in a storm when he was at the Hotel Quarantine in Adelaide with the Australian team. Tensions between the 46-year-old Langer and the cricketers had risen, and CA had to fire heavily, holding an emergency Zoom meeting in August, where CA president Earl Eddings, CEO Hockley, Test captain Tim Paine, were confined. Overs captain Aaron Finch and Pat Cummins were present.

Langer had come under intense scrutiny after returning from Australia’s 4-1 T20I series defeat at the hands of the West Indies and Bangladesh. Apart from an alleged heated argument with a CA employee in Dhaka, there were reports of dissatisfaction between him and the players.

However, during Sunday’s post-match press conference, Finch said the vibe around the group was unbelievable, indicating that the patch-up between the players and coach Langer was complete.

When asked about the incidents that happened two months ago, Finch said, “Yes, he (Langer) is great. The vibe around the group has been incredible. Like I said earlier, how well everyone is getting along, having spent a lot of time in each other’s room and team room and relaxing for lunch, dinner and breakfast and everything is put together. Yeah I guess it just adds to the environment.

“So yes, JL (Justin Langer) also played a part in that, and yes, it’s a big reward for him as well as for the players,” Finch said.

Asked how he was able to check the “tension and awkwardness” in the camp ahead of the T20 World Cup campaign, the Australian limited-overs captain said honest conversations helped clear misunderstandings.

“There’s no tension or awkwardness. It’s about having an honest conversation and being really up front and being really honest. The only awkwardness is when things are happening behind the scenes and you’re trying to fix things or you’re trying to pull things down or pull the wool over someone’s eyes. No, there’s nothing in it. It’s been a great campaign.”
