Chief of Defense Staff CDS General Bipin Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat and 11 Army personnel were killed in a helicopter crash in Coonoor, Tamil Nadu on Wednesday. A total of 14 people including 5 crew members were on board the Mi-17 helicopter of the Air Force. Group Captain Varun Singh, who was badly injured in this horrific accident, is battling for life and death.

2. Madhulika Rawat- Madhulika Rawat, wife of CDS Bipin Rawat, was a housewife as well as a social worker. Bipin Rawat’s wife Madhulika Rawat was currently the president of AWWA ie Army Wives Welfare Association. This association is the nodal organization working for the welfare of wives, children and dependents of army officers/ jawans.

Madhulika organized many programs for the survival and development of the wives of the martyrs. As the President of AWWA, Madhulika Rawat was responsible for the welfare and all-round development of the wives and dependents of martyrs who died during war or other military operation.

3. Brigadier HS Lidder- Brigadier HS Lidder was serving as Defense Advisor to the Chief of Defense Staff. He was married to a teacher, whose name is Geetika. They have a 16 year old daughter Aashna who is a student of class 12th. Brigadier Lidder’s father Colonel Mehanga Singh was also a retired army officer.

4. Lt Col Harjinder Singh- Lt Col Harjinder Singh was serving as the SO of CDS. He served in various missions with his battalion including deployment to the Siachen Glacier and a stint in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission. He was originally from Lucknow, but his family later shifted to New Delhi.

5.Lance Naik Vivek Kumar – Lance Naik Vivek Kumar (29) of Post Office Kosari, village Upper Thehdu, Jaisinghpur in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh has also passed away. Vivek was the PSO of Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat. Vivek’s wife, father Ramesh Chand, mother Asha Devi are unconscious after this information. Vivek was married in the year 2020 itself and became the father of the son in September 2 months ago. His wish to celebrate his son’s first birthday remained unfulfilled. His father Ramesh Chand works as a daily wage earner while mother Asha Devi is a housewife. Vivek has a younger brother, who works in a bakery. One of his sisters is married.

5. Squadron Leader Kuldeep Singh- Kuldeep Singh was the co-pilot of the plane that crashed. His father Randhir Singh Rao is an ex-navy officer. His sister is also in the Indian Navy. 2 years ago on 19 November 2019, he was married to Yashaswini Dhaka of Meerut. One of his sisters, Abhita, is working as a Deputy Commandant in the Indian Coast Guard. His mother Kamala Devi is a housewife. He was the only son of his parents.

6. Lance Naik B Sai Teja- Sai Teja (27), a resident of Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, is survived by wife Shyamala, 4-year-old son Mokshagana and 2-year-old daughter Darshini. Sai Teja, son of a farmer, was a resident of Eguwa Regada village of Ku.Rabala Kota Mandal.

7. Nayak Jitendra Kumar- Army jawan Jitendra Kumar, a resident of Dhamanda village in Sehore, was posted under the protection of CDS General Bipin Rawat. Jitendra’s father’s name is Shivraj Verma and mother’s name is Dhapi Bai, he has two brothers and two sisters. Apart from this, he also has a wife and one year old son. He had joined the army in 2011. His mother is ill, so he has not been informed about the son’s martyrdom. Jitendra got married in 2014. They also have a 4 year old son and a one and a half year old daughter. Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also condoled the death of Jitendra by tweeting.

8. Prithvi Singh Chauhan- Prithvi was the only son and youngest child of his parents. The news of his martyrdom was given to the father of martyr Prithvi by his elder daughter Shakuntala. In the year 2007, Prithvi took seven rounds with Kamini, a resident of Vrindavan, and chose her as his life partner. Prithvi was the father of 12-year-old daughter Aaradhya and 9-year-old son Aviraj. He was the only son of his parents. He has three elder sisters.

9. Group Captain Varun Singh- Group Captain Varun Singh, a resident of Deoria, UP, is the only survivor of this accident. He is being treated at Army Hospital in Wellington. He is posted in Wellington, Tamil Nadu. He was awarded the Shaurya Chakra in August.

11. Havildar Satpal Rai- Havildar Satpal Rai, a resident of Takdah in Darjeeling, was the personal security officer of the CDS.

12. Nayak Gursewak Singh- Naik Gursewak Singh was from 9 Para Special Force and served as Principal Staff Officer of CDS. Gursewak Singh’s mother has passed away while father and brother remain in the house.

13. JWO Rana Pratap Das – He hailed from Krishnachandrapur village in Angul district in Odisha and was part of the technical team. JWO is survived by his wife, one year old son and his elderly parents.
