The critically acclaimed South Korean series DP (Desert Pursuit) will return for its second season and with some new actors. In a recent announcement made by Netflix Korea, the upcoming season will include an ensemble cast from previous seasons including Jung Hee-in, Goo Kyo Hwan, Kim Sung Kyun and Son Suk Koo. It is being said that there will be some new faces in the coming season.
DP was released on Netflix last year and told the story of a young private in the South Korean military who was tasked with bringing back soldiers who had left service. The series directed by Han Joon-hee depicts the dark side of compulsory military service in South Korea and how it affects men mentally. The series sheds light on the issues men in the military face facing bullying, financial woes and ideas of masculinity.
The cast will come together again to tell some more stories of the South Korean military. New cast members on the show include Ji Jin Hee and Kim Ji Hyun. According to Sumpi, Jin Hee will play the role of Goo Jae Woon, the Chief Legal Officer of Army Headquarters. The actor has previously featured in plays like Move to Heaven, Designated Survivor: 60 Days, Misty, and more. Meanwhile, Ji Hyun was recently seen at Twenty Nine, and has also starred in such plays as Artificial City, and Backstreet Rookie. She will take on the role of Lieutenant Colonel Seo Yoon, the ministry’s operating officer for the National Defense Prosecutor’s Office.
The Netflix series also garnered praise for its gripping storyline and performances by the actors. DP won Best Drama, and actors Jo Hyun Chul and Kyo Hwan won Best Supporting Actor and Best New Actor respectively at the 58th Baeksang Arts Awards held earlier this month.
Talking about the upcoming season, Hee-in said in a statement, “I’m so delighted to be able to film DP Season 2 together, and I’m excited and excited to be meeting great people on set again. Looking forward to seeing you please private Ah Joon Ho.”
