A day after the Ajnala incident, in which some policemen were injured, DGP Gaurav Yadav said appropriate action would be taken against those involved. Referring to Operation Blue Star, Amritpal said it was and still is a moment of ‘trauma’ for the Sikhs.

“When the Golden Temple was attacked and Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale was killed, it might have been a moment of joy for many, but it was a trauma for the Sikhs. It is still a trauma. do not care.” Because you are society. Not a single Hindu was attacked in Punjab… When (former prime minister) Indira Gandhi was assassinated, Sikhs…were attacked.

Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh said that the allegations against Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale were leveled and huge money was spent “to malign his image”.

“When someone is in power, he has the power to do anything evil. Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale is evil in the eyes of the Indian people, and Indira Gandhi may be a hero. But that does not change our views. We will Love him. India controlled all the resources to demonize him and it did. Billions of dollars were spent to destroy his image and blame him. But what happened? There is no village here where May his pictures not inspire youth, they haven’t seen him. But what happens? Daman finds a way out of slavery,” said Amritpal Singh.

Bhindranwale was the head of the Damdami Taksal, a Sikh religious sect. He was killed along with his armed followers during Operation Blue Star launched by the Indian Army in the Golden Temple complex. Amritpal Singh also said that steps should be taken to improve the police system.

“Indian people should reconsider the police system in the country. It is still pre-1947. The way they interrogate people, the way they pick them up, the way they work. Courts are full of such cases. They are lying because the police system is not right. It is not the problem of the police, but of the law. They have to change the law to improve the police system and make things more transparent.”
