The platform’s new membership policy has resulted in several cricketers losing their Twitter verification mark and English batsman Kevin Pietersen himself took to the platform to express his views on the change.

In a surprising turn of events, micro-blogging platform Twitter decided to do away with all legacy ‘blue ticks’ on April 20.

The blue tick mark adjacent to a particular username was introduced by Twitter in the year 2009 to help identify authentic accounts of big-name celebrities and figures of public interest.

Following the much-talked-about acquisition of the popular platform by Elon Musk, the 51-year-old said he was ushering in a new era and verification tokens would be provided to users on a subscription basis.

As a result, several cricketers have lost their verification mark and English batsman Kevin Pietersen himself took to the platform to express his views on the change.

Following the change, Pietersen posted a tweet that read, “Who cares whether you have a blue tick or not? How does it affect your day, positively or negatively? It really shouldn’t! Be happy, Be nice and don’t let something so silly bother you for a second!”

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Lucknow Supergiants, who lost their blue tick, posted an update with a picture starring a popular film Bollywood “Where’s the blue tick?” Actor Manoj Bajpayee with the caption, which literally translates to “Where’s the blue tick?”

Many notable cricketers like Virat Kohli And Rohit Sharma has lost the blue tick on his Twitter account, and it doesn’t stop here. Celebrities from the entertainment industry also faced the same fate.

Basketball superstar LeBron James expressed his disinterest in signing up for the subscription model for verification when Musk announced his plans a few months ago.

And it was reported that Musk paid out of his own pocket to keep the blue tick active on the LA Lakers star’s profile, in addition to Star Trek star William Shatner and famed author Stephen King.
